Racism

I think it's safe to say that the majority of people hate racism, however, as it is with everything, the vocal minority somehow still gets attention. Even in this day and age, somehow racism is still a major social problem. Even wit the large amount of progress in this area, there is still some who think that racism is a part of every day life.

A recent well known case of racism is Donald Sterling, the owner (soon to be former owner) of the NBA team, the Los Angeles Clippers.  Recently his mistress recorded a conversation between the two of them. During this recording, Sterling told his mistress to not take "Black" people to his team's  basketball games and not promote hanging out with them by posting it on Instagram. This is in spite of the fact that his mistress was half african-american and half mexican.

As would be expected from such a example of racism, there was a large amount of backlash from the media and public. As his team was in the middle of a playoffs series at the time (which they would end up winning), the players didn't comment too much on the situation as they wanted to think about their upcoming games. However, this didn't stop them from staging a quiet protest during the warm up of their next game. After walking out on to the court for warm up, they took off their Clipper warm up gear and put it on the middle of the court, they then conducted warm up with a red shirt turned inside out so they wouldn't have to show the Clipper's logo.

As well as this, before the NBA commissioner revealed the punishment for Sterling, The Clippers team and their opponent the Golden State Warriors agreed that if the verdict was anything less than Sterling being banned from the NBA, the game planned for after the verdict would be boycotted. It is believed that if the ban was implemented two other games scheduled for that day were going to be boycotted too.

After his bigotry was released to the public my TMZ, Sterling was fined $2.5 million by the NBA (The maximum fine the NBA can enforce) and he will be forced to sell his share of the Clippers if three quarters of the NBA team owners agree to this.

Let's just face it, racism is stupid. There isn't any other way to put it. if you want to see some of the stupidity which is found in this world of ours I recommend the following site, http://northwestfront.org/ .
There is no sign of intelligent life found on this site and if you are ever frustrated at someone for acting stupid just remember that at least they aren't a member of this organisation.

I'd like to leave you with a quote from the homepage of the NorthWestFront website.

"We don’t stand for hating people, we stand for freeing people, our people, from a yoke of tyranny and oppression that has become impossible for us to live with. We stand for preserving our race from biological and cultural extinction."

People on public transport

Oh my god, why does everyone on public transport seem to be the most selfish, disgusting and straight up putrid examples of human beings. I partake on a 4 hour commute every day to get to and from uni and in that time my hate of the human race just sky-rockets. It still puzzles me why people feel the need to take up more than one seat when they clearly can just use one. Are they that scared of human interaction? Are they that selfish to deny another standing customer the chance to rest their legs and sit down? Or does everyone just suck? I think i'll go with the last option. Maybe i wouldn't be so upset if i didn't have to witness constant sneezing, coughing and spluttering all around me. I mean, i understand that people get sick, and these are normal reactions to sickness, but could you at least cover your mouth? please? I'm absolutely certain that me and all the other passengers on this public transport don't want to bathe in your shower of spittle and bacteria. Why doesn't everyone just sit down in their one seat, follow the correct transport etiquette, and get not be a complete bastard. One can only dream.

Australian Budget 2014: Why We Hate It

Just when the economic was going well when Tony Abbott was elected as MP on September 2013, it went downhill wen the new federal budget was introduced on the 13th May 2014. The new budget brought major changes that people knew that Abbott couldn't keep to his promises. This budget is targeted to hurt welfare groups that includes: unemployed people, public and health services, pensioners, families, university students, etc. The changes that those targeted groups dislike are:
  • The family faces: the Family Tax Budget, the increase in petrol excise, the $7 fee when seeing their GP, an increase in medicine costs and higher, deregulated university fees for the children who are university students.
  • The Pensioner are confronted with: the $7 fee to see the GP and the pension age will rise to 70 in 2035 and have concession cuts
  • The unemployed: there were 16, 500 jobs lost from the Commonwealth public servants. They face a 6 month dole scheme which they receive benefits. Also, the age is raised for young people who are unemployed from 22 to 25 years of age to be eligible for Newstart.
  • University students: Hardworking families who don't have university degrees should pay less for other people's degrees while university students who will earn 75% more income should pay more for their own degrees, especially when the federal budget is a mess.
These targeted groups are protesting against the new budget and are unhappy with these changes. Even though some groups have benefits from the new budget, the majority of these groups mentioned above are at a disadvantage. The responses of this budget is shown on social media:

http://www.smh.com.au/business/federal-budget/federal-budget-2014-social-media-reactions-20140513-zrbrw.html
However, the federal government seem to see the benefits from the budget when the economic is going through a transition and see an as increase in "longer-term productivity and living standards", as mentioned in the Budget Overview. But will it really work out well in the long term? So, what are YOUR thoughts about this new regime?

People who hate the police

The Police force is in place for a reason, to enforce the principles of justice and the laws of our country to keep citizens safe and to improve the quality of life of the millions of people that reside in Australia. For some unknown reason, it is considered cool to bag out the good folk who uphold our laws, because they 'busted mi mates drinkin' at the park' or 'confiscated my drugs again, they're such dumb dogs'. Firstly it is not their fault that you're doing the wrong thing, they are just trying to keep the streets safe and if that means that your dumb ass friends get their illegal substances taken away, or they have to get locked up for the night then that's what has to be done. Secondly show some respect for these people. They have to risk their lives at times to prevent crime, and you're treating them like rubbish. They don't discriminate against you for being a dropkick, and regardless of whether you're posting on social media about them, when you call 000 they'll be there to help. I feel like i shouldn't have to post this but if you're still set on the idea that police suck then here's  10 good reason why you should shut your mouth.
Next time you think it'll be cool to badmouth the Police, have a second thought about the trouble they go through to keep us safe. If you think i'm wrong, tell me why, if you think i'm right, tell me you love me. All comments welcome below.

Whaling

The Subject of whaling has been a contentious issue over recent years. There has been a massive public outcry due to whaling which puts many endangered species at serious risk of extinction. While whaling by the Japanese is highly reported, both Norway and Iceland also participate in Whaling.

The following is found on the World Wide Fund for Natures website:

Japan took a total of 866 whales in 2006/07 season:

  •  3 Southern Hemisphere fin whales,
  •  508 Southern Hemisphere minke whales,
  •  197 North Pacific minke whales,
  •  51 North Pacific Brydes whales,
  •  101 North Pacific sei whales,
  •  6 North Pacific sperm whales.

I h8 txt tlk

Another thing that really bothers me is 'txt tlk'... text talk. A little of 'ill c u soon' here and there isn't anything I'm going to complain about, but when text talk becomes ridiculously confusing, it is just unnecessary! I do wonder whether the author has to think harder about how they can abbreviate their message than it would take for them to just write the message properly in the first place.

Sometimes I feel like another language needs to be taught in schools, teaching the students how to understand and compose text messages that are strongly abbreviated.

Working in CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

I am a hater of customer service. Whoever was the first man to say 'the customer is always right' is WRONG and whoever continues to quote him is EVEN MORE WRONG! Working in customer service can be likened to being treated like a dog. Complaints. Refunds. Complaints. Verbal attacks. Complaints. Accusations. This is all left out of the job description, but being 'thick-skinned' is definitely required of a sales assistant of any kind.

http://blog.upshotcommerce.com/secrets-to-great-customer-service/

There is nothing more frustrating than talking to a customer who lacks the ability to reason, and instead blames the sales assistant for doing their job and supporting the business they are employed to work for.

To all those people who are customers (that should be everyone, unless you live under a rock)... please be kind to sales assistants. They do their best to comfort you, but to be honest, you are not always right and sometimes you need to accept this..

I ABSOLUTELY HATE cyclists on the road

I HATE cyclists on the road. One thing that really bothers me about cyclists is when they think that they are so cool that they can ride on the road. This should not be legal! Not only do they ride 10km per hour, holding up all the traffic, but they scare drivers! I become absolutely P-A-R-A-N-O-I-D when I drive near a cyclist and am constantly wondering... what would happen if they hit a rock and fell off? Would I run over them? Not nice thoughts, definitely something that shouldn't be crossing your mind when you are trying to focus on the road.I have nothing against cyclists, in fact I admire them. I think it is a great thing that they are trying to keep fit, 10/10. And plus, there are some beautiful places that they could potentially ride- in parks, forests, by the beach etc. So why ride near the road? Either they love the attention or love to piss off us anxious drivers!

Crazy Fans All Over Celebrities

Do you know anyone who has an obsessive crush over Justin Bieber (eww - my opinion), One Direction (1D) or Channing Tatum, to just name a few? We have all experienced a time when we like a celebrity, singer, actor/actress, musician, a friend or even your next door neighbour! Personally, I understand why some people are a fan of something, but really, I don't understand why they would cry over them, swoon over them, scream at the top of their lungs at a concert, or whatever crazy things people would do. Really, when you think about it, if someone did cry, scream, dance crazy like there is no tomorrow, they will get a pale tear-stained face, lose their voice or get sore pains in their body the next day. Here is an example that I've overhead some of my friends gossiping:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VDNMJVoXQg
When One Direction first toured around Australia, they resided at Palm Beach hotel apartments. There were six teenage girls and one eight year old boy who had sneaked inside Palm Beach apartments and conveniently stole Liam Payne's Calvin Klein's red underwear. One of the girls even wore it under her skirt but later decided to return it back. Eww, that is really gross! I wonder what was going on in their minds at that time when people do insane actions; do they even think about what the consequences are and how would it affect them? Some fans need a reality check to see if they are really themselves or not and to just stick to having fun at the concert or at an event.

People who use acronyms when they talk

Now before you jump in and tell me 'they save time' or 'they help us remember the name of things', I'm not talking about the names of companies or long words. The sort of acronyms im talking about are 'lol' and 'omg', the sort of things you type to a friend in an instant message on facebook. If you have to literally pronounce the letters L O L, which stands for "laughing out loud" then you obviously weren't laughing hard enough at whatever they said. Even worse is when people pronounce it in some sort of "cool troll voice" as if theyre doing it ironically or to be funny. "lawl" "omg laughing out loud" and "rofl" are not acceptable things to be said in a public place and make you sound like a 5 year old. So please for the love of all things nice, stop using IM acronyms to tell people how funny something was. Just laugh  if you think something is funny, shake your head instead of saying 'smh' and never ever ever say roflcopter. Feel free to use any of these in a text but they do not save time when youre talking and they just annoy any sane person.
Have you got a friend who does this, let us know in the comments and give us a piece of your mind, then let them know how you feel!

People Who Don't Use Their Blinkers!!!

They are many dangerous things that can happen on a road these include;

  • Texting while driving
  • Going through red lights
  • Speeding
  • Drunk Driving
However, one of the most irritating road things is people who change lanes/ turn without using their blinkers!!!

According to a 2012 study by the Society of Automotive Engineers, it was found that there are approximately two million accidents caused by someone not using their blinkers. The study also showed that when turning or changing lanes, drivers didn't use their blinkers an astonishing 750 billion times a year.

This is just plain stupid in my opinion. It isn't that hard to move your fingers a couple of inches, this little movement could save your life. I implore anyone who reads this to not be a %&*#^!$% and just use your blinkers!!!

Australian Games market

Oh my god, why does the games industry in Australia have to suck so much. We pay more and we get less, it seems to be as simple as that. I cannot count the times I hear whiny American voices complaining over chat rooms in games about how, "games are too expensive, $60 is way to much for a new game!". Well you must have it soooooo tough, its not as if, just last year, new release games were costing up to $120? oh right they were, goddamn it Australia. What makes it even worse is that our experience of these games is not as well rounded as in other countries.
Our classification of r-18 games which only came in recently, still doesn't allow the full content of games from overseas, with games like "south park-the stick of truth" still having some of their content censored and replaced with a crying koala. Even games which don't have censorship issues, but are online based, suffer greatly in Australia due to the dominant nature of having american based servers, and the lack of an NBN system implemented in Australia. If only Australia could help foster the creative boom that is the games industry and allow an ease of access to the full range of content that the world has to offer, then maybe I wouldn't have to hate everything as much as I do.

People who update their status every second

My god, where do I begin. I come to sites like "Facebook to gain a wide understanding of my friends lives and activities, which for the most part works very well. Until you find that one friend, that one goddamn person who thinks they can use this platform to promote their every single mundane activity that they go through in a day. “feeling hungry”, “just made toast”, ”ate toast, it was MAD”.
For some strange reason I feel as if I could go with just one out of these 3 posts, or you know what, maybe I don’t want to know about your wild toast eating adventures at all, maybe its things like these that all your friends need to know. I mean, I know that this is not my right to control what people do with Facebook, I guess they have some sort of rights, but really?... Reeeeeeeeeeally?, don’t you think it would make your life more productive to actually do exciting stuff during your day rather than stopping every thirty seconds to promote it to the world. Maybe i'm just just being a diva, or maybe this is just another reason why i hate the world.

Smokers

I literally have no idea why people smoke. The number of times I've been having an enjoyable time at a party or at a friends house and my opinion of someone is ruined as they reach over and ask their mate 'hey do you have a lighter'. It doesnt make sense to me why some people feel the need to inhale thousands of dangerous chemicals for 'a buzz'. People say "i'm addicted" in their teens and it just makes me angry that this dangerous activity is seen as a cool thing to do in the youth of today. Society doesn't seem to understand the immense impact theyre creating for themselves and for others by smoking. Its a giant financial burden medically to deal with the impacts of smoking on the lungs, and the cost of cigarettes themselves is ridiculous. Call it quits if you do smoke, because I, along with many others are fed up with inhaling your passive smoke as a walk happily down the streets of my town.
If you or someone you know has a smoking problem, do the right thing and use the quitline. Programs like this are in place for a reason, to help society progress forward together.
